Sans titre (Cartes postales) is part of a body of work focussing on the accumulation of information and how a simple support can be used as a symbol for a multitude of narratives. Using found documents removed from their primary function, Jean-Michel Leclerc questions the production mechanisms of history and presence. Creating a double, in this case, allows him to not only distance the object from its utilitarian value but also to introduce the possibility for it to become invisible.
Biographical note
Jean-Michel Leclerc est né en 1990 à Québec. Il travaille la mémoire, la présence et l’invisible par l’entremise de la sculpture, du dessin et de l’art imprimé. Il est lauréat du prix Sylvie et Simon Blais 2017 ainsi que du prix Albert-Dumouchel et du concours 1res Œuvres! de BMO pour le Québec (2012). Ses œuvres se retrouvent dans plusieurs collections d’entreprises et de particuliers, notamment la collection d’œuvres d’art BMO. Il vit à Montréal, où il poursuit actuellement des études de maitrise à l’Université Concordia.
