Cascade, un dessin qui appartient à la série Rêves sous la peau, explore la silhouette humaine et le contour qui la définit en transformant sa surface en représentation abstraite. Au moyen d’éléments littéraux et métaphoriques, cette représentation révèle et camoufle à la fois les frontières de cette surface, et s’interroge sur la signification de la peau en tant que barrière semi-perméable séparant le soi du monde extérieur. L’usage de la couleur, des motifs et de la texture partout sur la peau suggère que l’intime est révélé par ce qui le contient, où il s’imprime et se donne à voir – sans qu’on sache trop comment.
Notice biographique
Michelle Furlong lives and works in Montreal. In 2006 she received a BFA in Studio Art from Concordia University and later pursued post baccalaureate studies in the fine arts interdisciplinary program at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) University in 2007. Melding painting and drawing, Furlong’s work is inspired first and foremost by the human body, which she conceives of as both a form and a substance. Her drawings question the particular tensions that arise between the body as an agent and the body as a sign: a body describing a figure. Furlong has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Canada and the United States. In 2012 she had her first solo show, Rêves sous la peau, at Galerie d’este in Montreal. Her work is part of many private collections.
