Untitled (Study of Stairs 4 times) is a piece originally shown as part of Tomorrow you will not recognize us at Fourteen30 Contemporary. Derived from Rodchenko’s photograph Stairs, Untitled looks towards the Constructivist and Supremacist movements as a point of departure for deconstructing issues with making art in today’s culture. By repeating, mirroring and flipping the image, the formal composition of a woman climbing the stairs transforms into several figures walking into an abstract void.
Biographical note
Originally from Memphis, TN, Grier Edmundson received an MFA from the Glasgow School of Art and a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD. His work has been in numerous exhibitions including solo projects with Power House Memphis, Washington Garcia Gallery in Glasgow, Fourteen30 Contemporary in Portland and Battat Contemporary in Montreal. Group exhibitions include Samedi Samedi at Art:Concept in Paris, Grier and Luke Fast as F*ck: Tronjan Horse at the Project Room in Glasgow and To Hell with Dixie at Groeflin Maag Galerie in Basel. He currently lives and works in Montreal, Canada.
